Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Submitted by DWF Staff on Thu, 01/21/2010 - 01:17On Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6 pm, Friendship Chapel Baptist Church, Friendship Chapel Road, Wake Forest will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday by honoring first-year Coach Reggie Lucas, who led the Wake Forest-Rolesville High School football team to a winning season that ended when the Cougars lost to Jack Britt in the regional final. Guest speaker, Dr. Tom Jackson, pastor emeritus at Wake Forest Baptist, will honor the coach and team on January 21 with a dinner and program. The program will also recognize the students from local schools who won the contest for art, writing, and creative performance. Now in its 16th year, the event is free and open to the public.
Speaking of high schools, quash this rumor

Keung Hui of the News&Observer aims to put an end to a rumor floating around that the historic football stadium at Wake Forest Rolesville High School will be permanently flooded as part of the renovation that will take place next year. It will not, according Hui's sources. Observers may see berms installed to control erosion around the field during construction, however.
WF-RHS football coach wins statewide honor

The state's high school athletics association recently honored a local coach known for his three straight conference championships.
Earl Smith, the head football coach at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School was named Harvey Reid Male Coach of the Year on May 7 by the North Carolina High School Sports Association.
