The Well's cup runneth over. The church/coffee house and restaurant, which boasts a great drive through, has grown to the point that the owners are selling the building to focus more on the church part of operation.
Founded in 2005 in downtown Wake Forest as a ministry of Raleigh Church to help bring together people who wouldn't normally attend church services. Using a mix of good food and open minds, the coffee house-cum-worship space outgrew its S. White Street location and in 2007 relocated to its present S. Main Street spot after completing an extensive renovation of a historic house in the town's Forestville neighborhood.
Above all, the coffee house is still a church, writes Senior Pastor Mark Edwards in a letter to faithful churchmembers and "Wellheads," the folks who frequent the coffee house for comestibles only. The news was announced in an e-mail to folks on the mailing list. The letter is posted on The Well's Web site, but the only link is the "Important Announcement" one in the top of the page among other links such as "About us" and "Directions and Hours."
Edwards writes in his letter that the business side of running a coffee shop is taking too much time was from the ministry side of being a church. Despite that, The Well will continue to offer its full menu while the building is for sale.
It's bittersweet for us here at Destination Wake Forest, because our initial plans for this venture were hatched there over a cup of coffee and a Coke.
