It is now much easier to login or create an account here at Destination Wake Forest. No more worrying about remembering yet another username/password combination if you already are a member of Facebook or Twitter. We've also moved the login area to the right sidebar to make it much easier to find.
Users will now see that they can login using their existing Facebook or Twitter accounts. Just click on either button and follow the steps. If you are logged in at the time, each service will direct you through the process. Facebook users will have a seamless experience, while Twitter users will be directed to a page that asks them to "Deny" or "Allow" access.
Why would you want to do this? Well, for starters, there's the benefit of not having yet another login and profile to manage. It also makes it easier to share links with these networks.
This will change the information this site shows about our users. Both Twitter and Facebook take user privacy carefully, but require the user to choose information permissions. What you'll see here is the Facebook/Twitter photo that goes with the account. Facebook users will use their Facebook name, and Twitter users will show their @ handle. If you make changes to the photo or name fields on either service, those will appear here, too.
When it comes to collecting information, however, we are not keeping your Facebook or Twitter passwords. In fact, that's the beauty of the service. By clicking "Login with Twitter" or "Connect with Facebook" you are redirected to those sites. What gets transferred is the "permission" for our site to access your name and photo.
That information will be used to build your profile on this site, which you can view at any time by clicking on "My Account" underneath "Home" in the menu in the left column. The information we retain, above the username and photo (or avatar), will be your interactions with this site only.
We realize not everyone is on Facebook or Twitter, or some people prefer not to use this new connect feature, so we continue to offer the traditional username and password combination.
As usual, questions are always welcome via our Contact page, or you can ping us @destinationwf on Twitter.
